If you have been stuck at home like everybody else during the last few months you would have seen in your Facebook feed that (almost) everybody has now become a master chef, yourself included. You would also have realized the most frustrating part of cooking is preparing the ingredients, especially if your cutting board is old and uneven. Not to mention the knife you got from the dollar store isn’t doing you any favors.
So in recent months I’ve gone through different sets of bamboo cutting boards ranging from $13 all the way up to $200 to find something that was the best value for the money. In my quest for the ultimate board, I wanted to know whether the cheapest board does the trick or the board that deals the most damage to the wallet mean it’s the top of the line?
Pleasantly surprised by this cutting board from Royal Craft Wood, this extra large bamboo cutting board comes with built in handles and juice grooves – perfect for a part time stint as a cheese board or serving tray while working full time as a cutting board for meat, cheese and vegetables.
If you prep any sort of ingredients often you will appreciate the grooves that catches all the messy bits that would otherwise fall off onto the kitchen counter or table. It is thick and sturdy with a slight weight to it giving it a very premium feeling. The price point is fantastic for a board of this quality compared to much more expensive boards available that doesn’t nearly offer as much as this does.
• High quality premium board at a low cost
• Handcrafted with a reversible design, handles and grooves
• Extra large size makes it highly functional
This cutting board from La Mongoose is absolutely beautiful with the mosaic checkered pattern and embossed logo. I have it proudly displayed in the kitchen almost like an art piece. It has similar features to our top pick with its large, thick and sturdy size. It has a very heavy weight to it giving it the solid premium feeling.
It is the runner up due to its great quality although pricier compared to the other options, its aesthetic may appeal to buyers who are looking for a quality board and willing to fork out some extra cash to get the looks to go with it. There were some scruffs and marks when it arrived but after wiping and polishing with coconut oil (or oil of your choice) it came out sparkling new.
• Beautiful design with a mosaic pattern worthy of display
• Extra large and thick with a very sturdy feel
• Great idea for a wedding or housewarming gift
Personally, my favourite of the lot was the cheapest board that held it’s own against it’s pricier brethren. If you want to upgrade your cutting board, check out this bamboo chopping board combo from Totally, a three piece organic and highly functional set of cutting boards.
The major standouts of this set is it’s price point in comparison to other sets with the same offerings and the versatility of having three different sizes of boards to choose from – an 8 inch that can be packed relatively easily in any storage or brought with you somewhere, and 11 inch and 13 inch with hole cutouts for easy hanging or holding. It is chemical free and can be kept in top shape using the jar of Coconut Oil you have in your fridge.
• Great price, three boards for the price of one
• Different sizes for different purposes thats highly versatile
• Easy to carry and store
